200 Irish performers involved in 2015 Levenshulme Festival

200 Irish performers star in Levenshulme Festival in Manchester
Some 200 Irish performers will be appearing at this year’s 17 Day Levenshulme Community Festival in South Manchester.
The 2015 Levenshulme Festival is now in its 17th year and features over 120 Art, Comedy, Food, Live Music and Theatre events in the suburb which is home to one of the biggest Irish communities in the UK.
Highlights include a sneak preview of the UK premier for Beyond the Barricade which features 154 performers from County Mayo in the West of Ireland. The festival is hosting a welcome party to welcome the visitors to the area which features Joe Keegan from the BBC TV Series the Voice and dancers from The Keegan Academy School of Irish Dancing. Joe Casserley’s award winning Full Irish Radio show will be staging a special 2 hour broadcast featuring acts from the musical.
Other highlights include the Top Irish comedian Patrick Monahan, from ITV's 'Splash' makes an exclusive appearance and the ever popular festival stalwart Claire Mooney from BBC Radio Manchester will be staging a very intimate concert. The festival will also be staging the UK’s only Dylan Festival which features a number of Irish acts including Dubliner Conor Dardis, Charlotte Mary and Chris Flynn.
A special photographic Exhibition of the hugely successful recent 6 day Mayo Manchester Tradfest is being staged in the Union Inn along with a special exhibition on the Beyond the Barricade musical in Freds Art Gallery.
Tony Hennigan, Chairman of the Levenshulme Festival said, "The village is known as little Mayo in the Media and I think this year it may have to be altered to big Mayo with the amount of visitors we are expecting from the West of Ireland. We have been working hard for a number of years with the Mayo Manchester Business and Tourism group and Mayo County Council to develop the cultural and business links between the two areas. The partnership is quite unique in terms of the impact we have created both here in Manchester and across the Atlantic in Mayo, long may it continue to flourish.”
