2015 Mayo Manchester Tradfest expected to attract 40,000 visitors to Mayo

Just over Five hundred performers will take part in fifty events at this year’s 2015 Mayo Manchester Tradfest which is being staged in and around Ballina in North Mayo. The week long Irish Music and Dance extravaganza which runs from Friday 31 July until Wednesday 5 August is expected to attract just over 40,000 visitors.

The Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business group working with Mayo.ie, Failte Ireland, the Ballina Chamber, the Siamsa Straide Festival, the Kilkelly Heritage Festival and the Bonniconlon Agricultural and Gymkhana show have put together one of the biggest celebrations of Irish culture in Mayo. The family friendly festival will feature the very best of Mayo and Manchester’s Irish performers is aimed at developing stronger links between the UK and Mayo as well as showcasing the best of its talent. There is also a programme of Tourism, Business and Leisure events included in the festival.

Tony Hennigan the CEO of the group that have organisied the celebration commented "It looks like being a fantastic week, with eight official events taking place over the six days of the festival plus 42 fringe events most of which are free of charge. We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from everyone in Mayo and Manchester for what promises to be a week to remember.”

Mayo TD, Dara Calleary added “Mayo is the place to be this August for the best of music, friendship and fun. It's a perfect line up of the finest of Irish tradition. There will be a Cead Mile Failte (One hundred thousand welcomes) for everyone.”

Major Festival highlights include The Mayo Manchester Gala Concert on Saturday 1 August which features the cast of Beyond the Barricade, Trad Irish group The Murphy Sisters, Irish dancers and singers from Atlantic Rhythm, the Keegan Academy of Irish Dancers, Joe Keegan from the BBC TV series The Voice, 2014 Rose of Tralee finalist and musician, Mairead Hussey and fiddle player Fidelma O’Brien and Irish pipers from the Fianna Phadraig Pipe band. Other highlights include performances at the launch party on Friday 31 July at Dillon’s Bar and Restaurant. This is followed by performances at the Kilkelly Heritage Day on Sunday 2 August, the Bonniconlon show on Monday 3 August and the Siamsa Sraide Festival (Street Music & Dance Festival) in Swinford on Tuesday 4 August, plus the Atlantic Rhythm Wild Atlantic show on Tuesday evening at Hote Westport. The festival is brought to a close at Enniscoe House in Crossmolina on Wednesday 5 August with Atlantic Rhythm’s Ceili Cottage show.

Business highlights include the annual Mayo Manchester networking lunch on Monday 3 August at the Bonniconlon show which is a joint partnership event with the Ballina Manor Hotel, Mayo County Council and the Bonniconlon show.
