Fancy becoming a real life Robinson Crusoe in Mayo?
Have you ever fancied living on a deserted Island like Robinson Crusoe?, Tony Hennigan who is from Attymass in North Mayo took a staycation in Erris, in Mayo on the Wild Atlantic Way at the Broadhaven hotel who arranged for his dream to come true with a trip out to Inishkea Island.
The 40 minute boat trip is run by the family owned Belmullet Boat Charter in their twin hub catamaran sea boat. Sean Lavelle and his son Josh and Daughter Kea run the daily trip to the Island from the Blacksod Bay Pier which is just beside the world famous lighthouse. The deserted Island is ideal for family day out where you can enjoy a walk around the Island along its ancient paths which was once home to a thriving fishing community. Make sure you take a picnic and your own water as there are no amenities on the Island. The Island is a great spot for fishing and having a swim in its crystal clear waters or just chilling out at one of its sandy cove beaches. Visitors can wild camp at the Island but make sure book your boat trip there and back in advance, although it is possible to reach the sea kayak if you are a very experienced and extremely fit canoeist.
