Mayo joins forces with Manchester to promote County at Irish Festival

Mayo Manchester and Mayo County Council's diaspora website have once again teamed up to promote all things Mayo and the forthcoming world wide 'Mayo Day' at this years 2018 Manchester Irish Festival.

The festival which runs from Friday 2 to Sunday 18 March. The festival is a two week celebration of all things Irish and is one of the longest Irish Festivals in the world which is now in its 23rd year, for more information visit

The Mayo celebrations start early with the Mayo Manchester Tradfest star 'Joe Keegan' launching his new EP 'Pick Myself Up' on Thursday 1 March at the Deaf Institute Music Venue. The award winning Irish Dancers 'The Ganley Sisters' fly over from Mayo on Saturday 2 March to stage a special afternoon of Sean Nos Irish Dancing workshops and Jiving workshops at the Chorlton Irish Club. The Dancers are also part of the annual Mayo Manchester Tradfest which will run from 2 to 8 August in Mayo this year.

Mayo Rose of Tralee, Sandra Ganley and her family are guests at this years annual Mayo Association of Manchester Dinner Dance on Saturday 3 March at the prestigious Lancashire Cricket Club's new multi-million complex. The Dinner features Country Music Star Mick Flavin and his band and is raising money for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice.

Its an early start for all things Mayo on Saturday 10 March when Manchester United take on Liverpool in the crunch Derby match at Old Trafford kicking off at 12.30, listen out for our Mayo Day promotion to over 70,000 packed into Old Trafford. in the evening another one of Mayo Manchester Tradfest star performers, The Keegan Academy of Irish Dancing our performing at a Charity Irish Night with the Last Drop at the Chorlton Irish Club. On the same night Mayo Manchester Tradfest Singer Songwriter Claire Mooney will headline a special Centenary Concert to celebrate International Women's Day and the one hundredth anniversary of Women in Mayo and Manchester being given the right to vote. The concert will take place in the Cedar Music Venue at Fred's Ale House in Levenshulme.

The St Patrick's Day Parade in Manchester takes place on Sunday 11 March and the Mayo Association of Manchester will be taking part, it starts at the Irish World Heritage Centre at 12 noon and the Mayo diaspora in the city are being urged to wear their Green and Red and join the association.

On St Patrick's Day itself on Saturday 17 March, the Mayo Manchester Tradfest stars 'The Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band' celebrate their 70th anniversary at the sell out St Patrick's Day Charity Ball in aid of the Good Life Orphanage, the band will be joined by MMTradfest Dancers 'Reel Rhythm'.

Finally Alan Keegan from Manchester United Football Club and compere for the Mayo Manchester Tradfest will host a special post festival evening with Manchester United and Republic of Ireland Legend, paul McGrath on Friday 23 March.
