The Mayo Man stages world premier of Mayo Day Song
The award winning Mayo Man himself, Mr Peter Mylett from Newport in Mayo is to stage the world premiere of his latest single called 'The Mayo Word' in honour of his beloved County as a tribute to this years Mayo Day theme. The legendary singer will also be performing his popular 'Greenway' song which was launched last year in Mayo. Peter will headline the flagship Mayo Day Tradfest evening concert at m19 bar and music venue in Levenshulme village in South Manchester. The area is home to one of the biggest Mayo Diaspora communities in the UK and the home of the Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business Group.
Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester commented "We are delighted that Peter is going to the world premier of his song on the night and the support we have received from Mayo County Council and Mayo GAA in the lead up to this years Mayo Day. We had visits from the Council and a surprise visit from Mayo Captain Diarmuid OConnor and his Vice Captain Paddy Durcan to help us promote this world wide celebration of all things Mayo related. The Tourism group have been involved in the initiative since it started over five years ago and it is great to see it grow and develop into a global celebration for the Mayo diaspora. The event always marks the countdown to our annual week long Mayo Manchester Tradfest which takes place all over Mayo from the 1st to the 7th August and features over 100 events and 500 performers.
Support on the night comes from the Grace Kennedy School of Irish Dancing, which is run by Grace Kennedy whose Irish roots stem from Westport in Mayo. Launching the night is the award winning Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band from the Mayo Manchester Tradfest and an acoustic performance from the Rambling Boys of Pleasure. Joining the line up on the night is Mexican singer Helea Gimeno who has been working with the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band on a music collaboration for her University course.
