Mayo Manchester start countdown to Mayo Day in Manchester and Liverpool

Mayo Manchester have had a very busy three weeks promoting the countdown to forthcoming Mayo Day which is a global worldwide celebration of all things related to the West of Ireland County and takes place on Saturday 4 May. The campaign started at the end of February with a flying visit from Mayo GAA Captain, Duirmuid OConnor and Patrick Durcan who launched the campaign at the Farmers Arms in Burnage before they went on to Old Trafford to promote the event during the Manchester United v Liverpool Derby in front of 70,000 fans.

Representatives from Mayo County Council then flew in to help launch this years Manchester Irish Festival with the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band on Saturday 2 March before attending the annual Mayo Association Dinner. Then on Sunday 10 March Mayo Manchester were busy promoting Mayo Day with the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band and the Grace Kennedy School of Irish Dancing taking part in the 3.5 mile St Patrick's Day Parade in Manchester.

During the St Patrick's weekend Mayo Manchester staged two Mayo themed Concerts with BBC Singer Songwriter, Claire Mooney and the five piece traditional 5 piece Irish Band Moor Irish at Fred's Ale House. Finally the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band were given the honor of leading the annual St Patricks Day Parade in Liverpool.

The support we have received from Mayo County Council, Mayo GAA and those involved in the Tourism sector in Mayo has been overwhelming. The campaign includes a free opportunity to win £800 worth of prizes in the lead up to Mayo Day which have been donated by Connacht Whiskey Company in Ballina, The Gateway Hotel, Breaffy House Resort Hotel and Ashford Castle."

Mayo Manchester will be staging a Tradfest Evening concert at m19bar and music venue in Levenshulme on Saturday 4 May. The concert will feature Live Irish Music from the 'Mayo Man' Peter Mylett along with the Rambling Boys of Pleasure, the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band and Irish Dancing from the Grace Kennedy School of Irish Dancing. The group are also busy planning their 7th Annual week long Mayo Manchester Tradfest which takes place in Mayo from 1-7 August with visits to Achill, Ashford Castle, Attymass, Ballina, Bonniconlon, Castlebar and Westport already confirmed.
