Monastery Goes Green for St Patrick's themed Charity Ball
The award winning Gorton Monastery in Manchester will be turned 'Green' for a special St Patrick's themed Charity ball on Saturday 12th March in aid of the Good Life Orphanage Charity. The Manchester based charity set up by Mary Maguire and her husband Kevin looks after orphans in Kenya, Africa. The Orphanage opened in 2008 and now care for over 50 orphaned children. The charity is quite unique in that every single penny raised goes directly to the orphanage (no administration travel or accommodation costs are taken by anyone involved in the charity, who all self fund their costs).
This Black Tie Event is one of the highlights of the 2016 Manchester Irish Festival and is a major fundraising event for the charity. The event includes a Champagne reception, plus a three course meal and entertainment by D.J and Compere Scott Welsby, aka 'Garth Brooks' and top traditional Irish music by Manchester Fiddle player extraordinaire - Richard Sanderson & the Commotion Band, plus a whole host of Irish entertainment to celebrate our Patron Saint.
It takes places in the newly refurbished Gorton Monastery which has one countless awards for its unique setting, the Monastery which was originally designed by Pugin and has had a multi-million pound renovation to turn it into one of the UK's premier events venue, it has been used by countless blue chip companies to host their dinners and many of you will remember the sold out Young, Gifted and Green show that was staged at the same venue.
When asked about why they were staging the event at the venue one of the organisers Catherine O'Gara replied "We wanted to stage a St Patrick's Dinner this year to celebrate Ireland's Centenary and to raise funds for 'GLO' its a fantastic charity which relies on events like this to keep it going.
