The New Minister for Community & Rural Affairs backs Tradfest in Mayo

Michael Ring TD the newly appointed Minister for Community and Rural Affairs has given his backing to the award winning 6 Day Mayo Manchester Tradfest. The week-long celebration of Traditional Irish Music, Song and Dance have teamed up with and will be heading to Westport during the festival which runs from Thursday 3 August to Wednesday 9 August. The Festival features over 500 performers from Mayo and Manchester taking part in over 100 events.

The Westport based Minister commented “I warmly welcome the Mayo Manchester Tradfest to Westport on Monday the 7th of August. This promises to be a wonderful night of music, dancing and will have something for everyone to enjoy. This event has been very successful in past years and I wish to compliment all involved in the organising of this event. I wish Mayo Manchester Tradfest continued success for the future”.

Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester added "It is great to get the support and endorsement for the festival of the new minister, we have been working with him since 2012 when he asked us to become Tourism Ambassadors for the hugely successful 2013 Gathering. The Mayo Manchester Westport 250 Gala concert on Monday 7 August at Westport Town Hall has been kindly sponsored by Rosgal Civil Engineers, Manchester. It will mark the 250th anniversary of the town and features the award winning Trad band 'Flatout'. The band will be joined by the Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band, Joe Keegan from the TV show The Voice and dancers from the Keegan Academy of Irish Dance, plus Dennis McCalmount and special guests. Flat Out are a young, energetic band from Ballina, County Mayo in the West of Ireland. The group comprises of cousins Ciara O’Donnell and Mark O’Donnell, plus friends, Brid O’Donnell and Harry Lawlor. They formed in 2013 and have gained great momentum since then. Winners of the 2014 ‘Le Crunch Apple of my Eye’ competition in association with Today FM, this has allowed them to perform in many great venues around Ireland and abroad. In addition to touring around Ireland, Flat Out have performed across the UK, Europe, America and quite recently Malawi, Africa. Coming from a traditional Irish music background, all members perform lead and backing vocals depending on the song and between them play guitar, fiddle, accordion, harp, bodhran, flute and tin whistle.
