Phil Coulter to launch 2015 Siamsa Sraide in Swinford

The 2015 Siamsa Sraide (Street Festival) in Swinford, County Mayo is continuing its tradition of bringing World Class talent to help launch its six day Irish Music, Song and Dance extravaganza. The star performer for this year’s launch is Phil Coulter, one of Ireland’s finest artistes of all time.

Described as Ireland’s Ambassdor of Irish Music, Phil Coulter has kindly agreed to stage a special Concert to launch the 31st Siamsa Sraide 6 day Festival in Swinford, which is part of the week long Mayo Manchester Tradfest.

The unique event is on Friday 31 July and is entited ‘Siamsa Seipel’ and is to be staged in the wonderful surroundings of Swinford Parish Church.

The founder and current secretary of the Siamsa Sraide festival committee, Brid O’Connell said “we are thrilled to have one of Ireland’s greatest musicians and composers opening our 31st festival. Siamsa Seipeil is now in its fourth year and is a wonderful event to launch our six days of Irish music and dance for the 2015 Siamsa Sraide.

Tony Hennigan the director of Mayo Manchester added “Phil Coulter is a world renowned composer and performer, I have been lucky enough to catch one of his shows in Manchester. It is a real coup for Swinford and Mayo to get him to launch the festival. We are delighted to have joined forces with Siamsa Sraide for the Mayo Manchester Tradfest and are looking forward to performing their on Tuesday 4 August. Joe Keegan from the hit BBC TV series The Voice is flying over to perform at 2.30pm-3pm on the main stage with the award winning Fianna Phadraig Pipe Band.”
Phil Coulter has been described in the media as one of the best-selling artists of his generation. He has written at least four titles that can be added to the ‘Irish songbook’ – the anthems ‘The Town I Loved So Well’ and ‘Ireland’s Call’ and the haunting ‘Scorn not his Simplicity’ and ‘Steal Away’. He will be joined by a special guest star vocalist, who will be announced in the coming weeks.
