Tradfest Stars start the countdown to festival in Ballina

Over 150 performers from the forthcoming Mayo Manchester Tradfest took to the Streets of Ballina this week to promote their involvement in their week long festival at the end of July.

The performers used their appearance at the annual 2015 Ballina Salmon Festival to give visitors a taste and flavour of what to expect during the August Bank holiday celebrations.

Dancers and musicians from Atlantic Rhythm kept the crowds entertained on Wednesday 8 July on Heritage Day, whilst the Ganley Sisters performed in the Irish quarter during the international Evening on Friday 10 July.

The cast of Beyond the Barricade sold out two nights at the Ballina Arts Centre and then stormed the main stage on Pearse Street as the headline act in the French quarter on the international evening.

Tony Hennigan from Mayo Manchester had travelled over for the annual Salmon Festival and to help pre-launch the countdown to the MM Tradfest and commented “I always try and come over for the Salmon Festival, it was great to see so many of the acts involved in our festival at the end of July involved in the Salmon Festival. They were a great ambassadors for our six day Irish music, song and dance festival which runs from Friday 31 July until Wednesday 5 August.”

The unique celebration during Ireland's August bank holiday weekend will see the two areas develop their Tourism and Business links and share their rich Irish cultural heritage. The festival involves over 500 performers from Mayo and Manchester with eight key events taking place alongside forty two fringe events at twenty different venues. The week long festival is being supported by Mayo Manchester Tourism and Business Group,, Failte Ireland, IPB insurance , Mayo North Tourism Office and the Ballina Chamber and Ireland West Airport. Media partners include the Western People in Ireland and the Universe media group in the UK.
